On the way home. Gerry was quiet. I was afraid to ask what was on his mind but it was bugging me, so I forged ahead. “A 10 spot for your thoughts.”
“They are worth at least 20 Cookie.”
“Wow I was afraid of that but I’m willing to risk a $20 bill to get into your head.”
“Tell you what, me beer or wine and some steaks and let you pick my brain.”

“I think you should get off the highway and pull off before I tell you this.”
Gerry gets as I suggested, so we got off the Don Valley Parkway at Pottery Road and pulled over to the shoulder.
“Okay, spill it Cookie don’t make me tickle it out of you!”
Gerry certainly knew my weak points, so I told him what was going on.
“That was your mom.”
“And?”
“She told me the greatest news possible Gerry. Peter woke up! Isn’t that fantastic?”
“Woohoo! Damn straight. Can we go see him?”
“No, not yet. Your mom said he needs his rest so we can go see him tomorrow.”
Gerry seemed to be happy with that. “Well, Cookie. This calls for celebration let’s go get those steaks and that wine!”
