“Hey, look at this,” Karen’s voice carried above the noise of the crowd.
Turning, Sarah caught sight of her friend and worked her way through the mob to the small cart. Glancing over the wooden box on wheels, she grimaced at her best friend, “Oh, gees. You always have such dark taste.”
“Of course,” the other girl giggles, “But you like my black streak.” Holding out the thick cord, a silver medallion hung at the bottom. Glinting in the sunlight that filtered through the turning leaves above them, the girls studied the swirl; “Looks like your birthmark, don’t you think?”
Ignoring the comment, Sarah shook her honey brown waves, again taking in the assortment of jewelry and oddities that overflowed from the portable booth.
“That is a very powerful amulet,” a deep male voice pierced her thoughts. Flicking her gaze up, she met the start of the curator, who studied her intently with crystal blue orbs beneath his coal black hair.
“I don’t believe in magic, so spare me the sales pitch,” she informed him crisply. Her hand shot up to grab the item from her friend, as she wanted nothing more that to return it to him and walk away. The moment her flesh made contact, a bolt of electricity shot through her, and she drew the digits away.
